Summary:
Ian McKellen stars in the titular role in this cinematic reimagining of Shakespeare's tragedy which transforms the entirety of the Theatre Royal Windsor into Elsinore Castle. When his father dies and his mother Gertrude (Jenny Seagrove) marries his uncle Claudius (Jonathan Hyde), Hamlet's world is turned upside down. As he grieves and gathers evidence against Claudius for the murder of his father, he becomes increasingly unstable as he is consumed by his anger and desire for revenge. The cast also includes Frances Barber, Francesca Annis, Steven Berkoff, Emmanuella Cole and Alis Wyn Davies.
