The Middleton Wesleyan Methodist society dates from around 1790. It became a member of the Oldham Wesleyan Methodist Circuit, founded in 1791 and later known as Oldham (Manchester Street) Circuit. Formerly housed in a church in Wood Street, the Middleton Wesleyans moved to new premises in Long Street in 1900. In 1950 the church joined the Middleton Methodist Circuit, then transferred to the amalgamated Manchester (North) and Middleton Methodist Circuit in 1970. It is currently a member of the new Manchester Circuit, formed in 2002.
