Openshaw United Free Methodist Church opened in 1860 (though the society had met regularly since 1847) and was a member of Manchester (Grosvenor Street) UMFC Circuit. In 1869 it left to head its own circuit Manchester 3rd UMFC (Openshaw) Circuit and in 1889 it moved to a new, larger building still in Ashton Old Road. After the Methodist Union of 1907, the church headed the Manchester (Openshaw) United Methodist Circuit. After the Methodist Union of 1932, the church became known as Central Openshaw Methodist and then moved to Manchester (Droylsden and Openshaw) Methodist Circuit in 1944. It closed in 1965.
