Archives
Shirley was the eldest of three children, 1 girl and 2 boys. Her father was a wealthy business man who made his money as a trader. Aged 7 Shirley lost her mother and was sent to live with her grandmother in Shanghai. When the Communists took over China her family fled to Hong Kong where she lived with an aunt. She attended school for four years before becoming an apprentice tailor. In c.1964 she opened a boutique with a business woman in Happy Valley. In 1965 she married. She then moved to the UK to join her husband with her baby daughter. Tailoring did not fit with life as a mother so Shirley cared for her family. The couple set themselves up in the catering business with a restaurant and takeaway shop. Shirley sadly passed away 27 Jul 2020.
