Maureen Ndlovu was born as an only child in a huge extended family in Zimbabwe in the 60’s. During her formative years she experienced the war of independence but thoroughly enjoyed her childhood and school years. After school she really wanted to work in tourism, but her mum made her come to the UK to train as a nurse. She had to become a mental health nurse as she can’t stand the sight of blood. The first time she arrived in the UK, she was very disappointed at how cold and dank it was and expected to only stay 6 months but ended up staying for 10 years before going back to Zimbabwe for a few years. Unfortunately, Zimbabwe was going through ‘unsettling times’ again and she found her way to Stockport and loved working for the community alcohol and drug team for 15 years. She’s an advocate and community organiser and continues to work in the criminal justice sector.
