Jannett was born, one of thirteen children, and brought up in St Vincent. At the age of ten she choose nursing as her future career and her parents supported her. She came to England at twenty years old to study nursing, arriving in England in 1959. She studied nursing in London and Birmingham. She married and had her first child before buying their first house in 1965 in Croydon. Her husband was doing a diploma in economics got a place at Salford and Jannett and their children joined him in 1972. Through the student housing service Jannett and her family found a home in Hazel Grove. After suffering racism in the hospital she was working at in Stockport she moved hospital to worked in Withington Hospital in Manchester, then she worked at Stepping Hill in charge of the intensive care unit at night. After retiring Jannett undertook work within her community. One of these roles was joining victim support which included supporting those who had been subject to racism. She started a home watch scheme in her own road. Jannett was the chair of START: Stockport Against Racism. Jannett and Olatunde Spence worked together to deliver Black History Month events in Stockport. Jannett also campaigned about ‘Stop and Search’. Jannett also has written a book ‘My Winward Side’ which was printed by Stockport Council and issued to their libraries.
