Bradshaw was an ancient chapelry in the parish of Bolton. The tower of the medieval chapel still stands in the churchyard separate from the present church, which was built in 1872. It was assigned a District by Order in Council, 21 February 1853 (London Gazette, 4 March 1853), comprising the township of Bradshaw and parts of the townships of Turton and Harwood.
