Services were held from 1854 in an old mill at Rockliffe until 1858 when the Sunday School was built and licensed. Services continued there until St. Saviour's church was consecrated on 25 January 1865. The school and church were built at the expense of James Maden Holt. It was desgned by E. Wyndham Tarn. A District was assigned to St. Saviour's by Order in Council 13 February 1866 (London Gazette, 6 February 1866) from St. John's Bacup and Christ Church, Bacup. Church closed Oct 2007.
