Custodial history:
St Thomas's was built on a site given by Thomas Cross of Mortfield, with the help of a subscription from Richard Henry Ainsworth with which he had originally intended to enlarge St Paul's. The church was consecrated on 17 July 1875 and assigned a District from St Paul's and St Peter's, Halliwell, by Order in Council, 26 June 1879. (London Gazette, 1 July).
