Custodial history:
The District of St Barnabas in the parish of St George, Charlestown began with the appointment of a curate-in-charge in March 1877. Services were held in Rockley St School until October 1879, when an iron church was built which remained in use until 28 July 1887. On 25 September 1886 the foundation stone of a new church was laid which was consecrated on 29 July 1887. A District was assigned to St Barnabas from St George's, Charlestown, by Order in Council, 17 March 1888 (London Gazette, 20 March 1888).
The two parishes were reunited in 1973 as St George with St Barnabas, Charlestown, by Order in Council, 16 July London Gazette, 20 July 1973). St George's became the parish church of the united parish and demolition of St Barnabas's church was approved by Order in Council, 17 March 1976 (London Gazette, 25 March 1976).
