Custodial history:
This school started in 1916, was a pioneer in nursery education. It was held in the ground floor premises of some small cottages, Marsland Street, Hyde Road, Ardwick. The school was always full with children of ages 2-5 years; throughout its history the headmistress was Miss K, Steel. The Committee regretfully decided to close the school in 1938, after consultations with Manchester Education Authority, and accommodation for the children was found in nursery classes in neighbouring elementary schools.

These records of the Ardwick Nursery School, Manchester, were presented to the Central Library in June 1961 by Mrs. D. G. Rothwell, of Salford. Mrs. Rothwell was the School's Honorary Secretary in the first years of its life and the records had been in her custody since the school's closure in 1938.
