The Hulme and Eccles Turnpike Trust was established under and Act of 46 George III (22 March 1806) ' for making and maintaining a road from Great Bridgewater Street in Manchester across the River Irwell through Salford and Eccles'. Further Acts relating to the road were passed in 8 George IV (21 March 1827) and 12 Victoria (14 August 1848).
