Custodial history:
The Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers was founded 1 Jan. 1921, from a union of the General Union of Carpenters and Joiners, (est. 1827), the Amalgamated Union of Cabinetmakers (est. 1833), the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners (est. 1860) and the Associated Carpenters and Joiners of Scotland (est. 1861). By 1971 the A.S.W. incorporated the Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators (est. 1886) and the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers (est. 1921), and so from 1Jan. 1972 its name was changed to the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians.
The Wythenshawe Branch was founded in 1934.
