The British Lighting Council was formed in 1957 out of the British Electrical Development Association, the Electric Lamp Industry Council and the Lighting Equipment Development Council. It aimed to increase the consumers awareness of the value of good lighting and thus improve the sale of lighting equipment, by means of exhibition and lectures. It ceased to exist in 1968
