The church began as a Congregational Church mission in Upper Moss Lane, Hulme in 1888. In March 1908 it moved to an iron building in Claremont Road, Moss Side and was recognised as a church under the oversight of the Manchester and District Congregational Board and initially Rusholme Congregational Church.
