The circle was formed in 1935 on the suggestion of Mrs Giorgia Pearce to continue on a more regular footing, as she was leaving Manchester, the concerts and social evenings she had held in her home for her students and friends. Mrs Pearce became the Circle's first President until her death in 1963. The aim of the circle was 'to encourage the love of music and its kindred arts'. Regular concerts were held, but by 1980 membership had dwindled and it was decided to disband the Circle, transferring its assets to the Musicians' Benevolent Fund.
