Custodial history:
No. 2 Branch of the Amalgamated Union of Upholsterers was set up in 1928 to organise the wholesale trade upholsterers. Its members were regarded as not sufficiently skilled for No. 1 Branch which comprised the retail, high class trade. The Union amalgamated with the National Amalgamated Furniture Trades Association in the 1950's to form the National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives. A further amalgamation in 1971 with the Amalgamated Society of Wood-cutting Machinists led to the formation of F.T.A.T.
