Custodial history:
St Mark's church was consecrated on 30 November 1865. It was assigned a District from the parishes of St James, Gorton, St Barnabas, Openshaw, St Thomas, Ardwick and St John, Longsight, by Order in Council, 26 July 1866 (London Gazette, 27 July 1866). In 1879 part of the parish was assigned to the new All Saints, Gorton, by Order in Council, 26 June (London Gazette, 4 July 1879), and in 1880 to the new St Benedict's, Ardwick, by Order in Council, 28 June (London Gazette, 9 July 1880). By Order in Council, 26 July (London Gazette, 2 August 1968) the parishes of St Mark and All Saints, Gorton were united as the parish of St Mark with All Saints, St Mark's church becoming the parish church of the united benefice. The old church of St Mark's was demolished in 1974 and a new one was dedicated as Emmanuel on 26 June 1975, and the parish re-named Emmanuel (London Gazette, 4 May 1976).
