Custodial history:
Services were held in the School room from 1857 and the church of the Holy Cross built in 1866. Bishop James Prince Lee objected to this name, as did his successor Bishop James Fraser, who, however, consecrated it as St Cross on 17 June 1874.
It was assigned a District from Droylsden by Order in Council, 6 August 1874 (London Gazette, 11 August 1874). In 1905 part of the parish was assigned to St Paul's, Bradford, by Order in Council, 11 July (London Gazette, 11 July). In 1913 part was assigned to St Andrew's, Droylsden, by Order in Council, 14 October (London Gazette, 14 October). In 1921 part was assigned to St. Barnabas, Openshaw, by Order in Council, 22 April (London Gazette 26 April).
By Order in Council 4 February 1970 (London Gazette, 6 February) the parish of St Paul, Bradford, was united with St Cross, as St Cross with St Paul, Clayton, St Cross becoming the parish church of the united parish.
