St. Chad's started as a Mission Church from St. Mary's, Moston. The Mission was dedicated on 23 November 1908. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on 22 November 1930, and it was consecrated on 11 July 1931.
A District was assigned from St. Mary's Moston, by Order in Council, 17 December 1931 (London Gazette, 29 December).
The boundaries of the parish were altered slightly by Order in Council, 31January 1966 (London Gazette, 4 February).
