Henry Rose was born in Cardiff, the son of Russian Jewish immigrants. He first worked on the South Wales Echo in Cardiff and the Western Morning News in Plymouth, before coming to Manchester in 1927 as the first sports editor of the northern edition of the Daily Express. He was travelling with the Manchester United football team involved in air crash in Munich 1958 and was one of those who lost their life.
