The papers of Tom Coughlin, born 1905, refelect his activities as District Secretary (from 1947) of the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers, Manchester and Salford District and Branch Secretary (from 1950) of the National Federation of Building Trade Operatives, Manchester Branch. He later worked for the Trade Union Pensioners Campaign Committee for better old age pensions (formed 1960), and the campaign against rent increases in 1972
