Toc H was started as a rest centre open to all ranks by the Rev. 'Tubby' Clayton in Belgium during the Firsat World War and grew into an international charity with the aim of building a fairer society.
This material was collected by Seti Onkowidjaja, a student from Indonesia living in the residence, 1979-1984. Toc H Mark IV in Manchester opened in April 1922 and had accomodation for 25 young men between the ages of 18 and 30. It closed in the 1980s. Many service personnel were based their during Second World War and the hostel welcomed students and workers from overseas.
