Translations of Amberg Family Correspondence

1909-1942
Archives
The letters, by Aennchen and Richard Amberg, are mostly to Emil Amberg. There are also some letters from Aennchen to Carl Amberg from an Internment Camp, 1941-1942. The translations were made by members of the family who were refugees in Manchester.

Custodial history:
Marlies Amberg (as recorded in the letters) was taken on as domestic servant by Morris Feinmann of Manchester, who also supplied the guarantee of maintenance necessary for her entry into Britain. Irmgard Amberg, the writer of some of the letters, married Werner Treuhertz, who arrived as a refugee in Rochdale in 1936 to help set up the refugee firm the Lancashire Tanning Company, in Littleborough. His employment by the company facilitated his settlement in Britain, along with other members of the firm from Germany who arrived during 1938-1939 (see Bill Williams's draft chapter on refugee industrialists).
