Altrincham Wesleyan Circuit was formed in 1838 out of the Manchester Wesleyan Circuit. From 1850 it was known as Sale and Altrincham Wesleyan Circuit until a separate Sale Circuit was formed in 1886. After the Methodist Union of 1932 the circuit was re-named Altrincham Methodist Circuit and was joined by churches from Lymm and Altrincham Primitive Methodist Circuit and by Altrincham ex-MNC church in 1935.
