Custodial history:
The first Wesleyan chapel in Altrincham was opened in 1788 in Chapel Walk (re-named Regent Road). When the chapel became too small for the demands of a growing Wesleyan population, a new church was opened in Bank Street in 1866 and later extended in 1886. The church belonged to Altrincham Wesleyan Circuit, after 1932 Altrincham Methodist Circuit. The Sunday school was initially held at the Wesleyan Day school in New Street (for Sunday school records see C18/10) until new, extended school premises were built at Bank Street in 1928. The church continued to be known as Bank Street Chapel even after the road name had been changed to Woodlands Road. In 1966 the Society combined with Borough Road ex-Wesleyan (C18/8), Broadheath ex-Wesleyan (C18/7) and Altrincham ex-MNC (C18/19) to become Altrincham Methodist Church, Woodlands Road, in the same premises, until a new church was built in Barrington Road.
