The beginnings of Oldham Wesley lie in Mount Pleasant Sunday School which was opened in 1832. The chapel was built in 1858 and a new school building was erected in 1867. The church headed the Oldham Wesley Circuit which was joined by Oldham (Lees Road) PM Circuit and Mossley MNC Circuit in 1951 and re-named Oldham (East) Methodist Circuit. In 1956 the Wesley society was joined by members from Oldham Lees Road PM. In 1969 the church transferred to the new amalgamated Oldham Methodist Circuit. It closed however in 1971.
