This circuit was formed in 1827 out of Salford Wesleyan Methodist Circuit. In 1872 the City Road, Stretford and Urmston churches left to form Manchester (City Road) Wesleyan Methodist Circuit. Great Bridgewater Street chapel was transferred to the Manchester and Salford Mission in 1888 and the circuit was re-named Eccles Wesleyan Methodist Circuit
