The Wesley society started holding services in rooms over a blacksmith's shop from the mid-nineteenth century. The members were able to raise sufficient funds to build a chapel in Bolton Road, opened in 1871. Wesley belonged to Manchester 2nd Wesleyan Methodist (Irwell Street) Circuit and from 1893 Salford (Pendleton) Wesleyan Methodist Circuit. The church closed in 1942.
