The society was formed in 1867 and a small private chapel was purchased in 1869. The cause flourished and the Whit Lane church was opened in 1895. It was part of Manchester 2nd Wesleyan (Irwell Street) Circuit, later Salford (Pendleton) Wesleyan Circuit, then was transferred to Salford (Swinton, Pendlebury and Pendleton) Methodist Circuit . In 1964 the church joined the Manchester and Salford Methodist Mission, but in 1965 its society merged with the Enys Street society and the church premises were altered and re-opened as a youth centre.
