Custodial history:
From about the mid-nineteenth century Primitive Methodists were holding services in a house in Wardley Lane in Swinton. A chapel was built in 1860, but when this was demolished in 1886 to make way for the railway, the society moved to a new church in Chorley Road. Initially part of the Manchester 3rd Primitive Methodist Circuit, The church joined the new Manchester 8th (Swinton and Pendlebury) Primitive Methodist Circuit in 1891 and moved on to Salford (Swinton, Pendlebury and Pendleton) Methodist Circuit in 1954 and Salford (Swinton) Methodist Circuit in 1964. The church roof collapsed in 1953 and the reconstructed church was opened the following year, but in 1967 Chorley Road Church closed completely. Its society continued however, meeting in the All Saints Anglican Church in Swinton, then moving to Wardley Community Centre in the 1980s.
