Worsley Wesleyan Methodist chapel opened in 1801 in what was to become Barton Road and a Sunday school was established there in 1814. Both church and school have, over the years, been extended, notably in 1878 and in 1982. Initially the church belonged to Salford Wesleyan Methodist Circuit, re-named Manchester 2nd Wesleyan Methodist (Irwell Street) Circuit. It transferred to Salford (Regent Road) Wesleyan Methodist Circuit in 1875, which became Walkden and Worsley Methodist Circuit in 1935 and Worsley Methodist Circuit in 1961.
