This was the Manchester 1st UMFC Circuit, formed after the amalgamation, in 1859, of three Methodist secessions including the Wesleyan Methodist Association. After the Methodist Union of 1907, the Blackley and Moston Section became a circuit in its own right, namely the Manchester (North East) United Methodist Circuit, and the remaining churches formed the Manchester (Cheetham Hill Road, later Leicester Road) United Methodist Circuit.
