The church was opened in 1881 and a school building was opened in 1889. Although situated in the north east area of Manchester, the church did not belong to a Manchester circuit, but rather joined the Oldham 3rd Primitive Methodist Circuit, later known as Oldham (Hollinwood) Methodist Circuit. In 1951 New Moston church joined the amalgamated Oldham (West) Methodist Circuit, but transferred to Manchester (North East) Circuit in 1966, then on to Manchester (North) and Middleton Circuit in 1970. The church closed in 1971.
