1876-2001
Archives
Opened 1876 with four departments and accommodation for 1000 pupils. The Junior Mixed Department of Christ Church Board School, Denmark Road, Greenheys (opened 6 November 1882) transferred to the newly extended buildings at Ducie Avenue 20 April 1903.
The Senior Departments formed a Higher Grade School with a separate Organised Science School from 1896. The departments were amalgamated from August 1904 to form a Higher Elementary School.
From 17 August 1914 the senior departments became Ducie Street Central School, housed temporarily at Dover Street and Princess Road until 12 April 1920, while awaiting a new building. Evacuated to Cheadle Hulme 1 September 1939. From 7 September 1953 the senior departments became Ducie Technical High School for Boys and Ducie Technical High School for Girls. September 1967 the Ducie Technical High School for Boys amalgamated with the Girls School to form Ducie High School.
In 1982 Ducie High School amalgamated with Central High School to form Ducie-Central High School. After the amalgamation the Denmark Road site closed and the School continued to operate on three sites, Lloyd Street, Daisy Bank Road and Kirkmanshulme Lane.
The Junior and Infants Department were combined in 1953 and closed 26 July 1957.
