Opened 12 October 1874 as a single mixed department. A new building was erected by the School Board and opened 12 August 1895 with accommodation for 1,182 children. A cookery centre was operative during the 1940s and 1950s, which served several schools in the neighbourhood. The Miles Platting Adult Centre opened in March 1947 and closed 30 March 1954 due to low attendance. The Infant School closed 25 July 1952 and pupils were transferred to Nelson Street Infants School [M66/124]. The Senior Mixed Department was renamed Miles Platting Secondary Modern 1 September 1952 and the Cookery Centre was incorporated into the school.
