The first Wesleyan Methodist society in Rhodes was founded in 1800. The church in Manchester Old Road was opened in 1899 and was a replacement for the original Wesleyan Methodist chapel. Rhodes Wesleyan belonged to Oldham Wesleyan Methodist Circuit and the successor Oldham (Manchester Street) Circuit until 1950 when it transferred to Middleton Circuit. The church closed soon after, however, in 1953.
