The Manchester Friends' Institute was established by local Quakers and appears to have operated from 1857 until closing in the 1950s. It operated along the lines of the YMCA and YWCA as a social club for Quakers in their teens and twenties, offering lectures, a library, sports and games facilities, entertainments and outings. The building was demolished in the 1960s and a tower block now stands on the site.
