The church, sometimes known as Hightown Wesleyan, was opened in 1862 and belonged to Manchester (Cheetham Hill) Wesleyan Circuit. The Sunday school was initially held in a room above the church, but in 1872 a separate school building was opened adjacent to the church. The church closed in 1933.
