St. Clement's was consecrated in 1876 and a District assigned to it from the parish of St. Matthew's, Ardwick, by Order in Council, 21 July 1876 (London Gazette, 25 July). By Order in Council, 8 May 1968, (London Gazette, 14 May) St. Clement's was re-united with St. Matthew's, Ardwick, as St. Matthew's with St. Clement's, Ardwick. The church was closed in September 1969 and demolished in September 1970. In 1971 the united parish joined St. Stephen's, Chorlton upon Medlock, to form the parish of St. Luke the Physician, Longsight.
