The chapel was opened in 1813. Initially part of New Mills Wesleyan Circuit, the church moved to head its own circuit, Glossop Wesleyan Circuit, in 1834. The church closed in 1960 and its society joined with other Glossop societies to form Glossop Central Methodist.
