The first Wesleyan chapel in Howard Town was opened in 1844 and was part of Glossop Wesleyan Circuit. It was replaced by a larger church, on the same site, in 1859. The church closed in 1960 and its society joined with other Glossop societies to form Glossop Central Methodist.
