Copy of court roll of the manor of Ightenhill reciting a letter from John Gage saying that Lawrence Townley has a lease from the King of
the new mill at New Carr called Penhull [Pendle] Mill in the Forest of Penull, and presentment of some tenants for not grinding their corn at it, 15 May 15^4, admittance of Lawrence Townley of Barnesyd, gent, [to Carr Mill], 23 Apr. 1545.

Copies of court roll of the court baron of the Hundred of Blackburn, of suits brought by Alice Towneley of Carr Hall against persons not grinding their corn at Carr Mill, (faded and difficult to read).

Extract from an award of 2 Nov. 1547 in a dispute between Lawrence and Richard Townley that the king's tenants of Reddihallowes, Lower Higham, Hunters Holme, West Close and Richard Townley's tenants in Filly Close, excepting the tenants of farms occupied by Thomas Watmough and George Grymshawe, should grind their corn at Richard Townley's mills.

Letter from J. Clayton to Mr. Starkie saying that James Varley, the defendant in the Carr Mill cause has died and he wishes an action to be brought against Bernard Crooke of Barrowford for the same offence.

Letter from Thomas Carr of Clitheroe Castle to Thomas Clayton esq. asking if he can borrow papers relating to the above case as he has been employed to defend an action brought by the miller at Henthorn Mill against some of his neighbours for not grinding their
