Letter from Thomas Whitaker to Thomas Starkie of Preston about the will of Lawrence Starkie, 14 Jan. 1712/13(?), in which he bequeathed lands in Midgley, Yorks. to Richard Townley, son of his niece Ellen Townley, subject to the payment of 10/- per year to Richard's sister Catherine, and property in the Forest of Pendle to niece Ellen for life, remainder to Rich, subject to payment of £100 to Ann, Katherine and Margaret, sisters of Richard Townley. Says 'Mr. Townley is like a Bird gotten out of a net and will not at all be mindful of his affairs till he be catched again.'

Draft bill to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster by Richard Townley of Carr Hall, drawn up by Edmund Starkie, that Evan Wall and his wife Ellen, Richard's mother, be compelled to draw up true accounts of the management of his estates in Barnset, Foulridge, Monkroyd, Colne and Goosnargh, from the death of Richard, father of the petitioner in 1709, to the majority of Rich, in 1723.
