Chief Librarian Subject Files

It is not known which Chief Librarian these files belonged to: it appears that the system was in place during successive terms of appointment. These files have been kept in the original order and listed as found in 2005. Titles and sequence numbers of files are taken from the original outer file jackets most of which have been replaced due to the poor condition of the file covers. Where material is not described adequately by the title it has been listed in the description field. Some appraisal has taken place of individual files as necessary. It is not known if these files may have been previously rearranged or condensed. Files M740/2/8/2/360-369 were not found in the original sequence; their numbering indicates that at some time they were probably part of the system and therefore have been added at the end.
