Jewish Library

1935-1991
Archives
In the mid-1930s the Jewish Collection was born when an organising committee was formed by Councillor Abraham Moss to raise funds and select material. In 1949 two substantial gifts were received, from the Moses Gaster Lodge of the Order of B'nai Brith and from the Israel Sunlight Library Committee. In 1955 the Council of Manchester and Salford Jews commemorated the Lord Mayoralty of Alderman Abraham Moss by making a donation to enable a separate room to be furnished to house the collection and to purchase additional books. The Jewish Library seems to have closed around 1991; the material is now available from the Science and Humanities Library.
