1947-1961
Archives
The idea of a library in Burnage was discusses from as early as November 1923, however it was not until Jan 1932 that the travelling library began to serve the district. In October 1939 moves were made to secure the tenancy of 32 Bournelea Avenue, Burnage to use as a temporary library. On 17 September 1947 a new library was opened using temporary ex-Civil Defence huts placed on land in Shawbrook Road owned by the library committee for the building of a permanent library.
