Jean, aged 11, in 1937. A `polyphoto'. These were very popular at the time. The sitter would be asked to read material on the studio walls which caused him to laugh or frown and change his position. Photographs were taken all the time and the sitter received about 48 contact prints and selected those which appealed for enlargement. Polyphoto studios were normally set up in the larger department stores. The donor thinks the craze started in c.1935 and continued until the 1950s.
