Bella in her dancing dress. She used to go dancing at Albert Cowan's on Raby Street, where all the young people used to meet. There were two dance floors: one for beginners and one for advanced dancers. There were male and female staff who were employed to approach the clients and dance with them, and showed them the new dances. Bella had learned the waltz from her father. There was a tea bar, but the young men could go outside during the evening for a smoke or a drink, however, the girls were not allowed to go out. There was an entry charge but the lessons were free.
