Mellor Parish Church is built upon a commanding site about 760 feet above sea-level which has always been used for the service of religion since druidical times. Christian Worship has been regularly maintained since England was converted. Lower Part of Tower 11th Century. Pulpit 1320 front - late Saxon. Sounding board 1720. Bells 1610-1630. Plinth was pre-reformation cross, whipping post and stocks in church yard. On reverse, it reads: Matins here since times Druidic. Every age thus witness beareth. Lonely oft as the Eskimau. Lifting heart to his creator On the past times and scenes historic. Reared on high to guide man's path. (note: the first letter of the 1st word of each line spells Mellor and the last letter of the last word of each line = church.) July 30th, 1931.
